This Week's Weird News 6/5/26

Mysterious individuals spotted entering and exiting the New York City sewer system, a 'shapeshifting' UFO seen in England, and a bizarre chicken nugget stunt that got a man banned from Six Flags were among the weird and wondrous stories to cross our desk this past week.

Strange sights that bewildered Britons made headlines on two separate occasions this past week. First, a man and his mother were left scratching their heads when they noticed what initially appeared to be a shapeshifting UFO that later revealed itself to be three seemingly connected odd objects that moved through the sky over their back garden. While some suggested the anomalies were alien, skeptics posited that they were probably balloons. Later in the week, passengers aboard a British sightseeing boat could not believe their eyes when they spotted an eerie optical illusion, known as Fata Morgana, that is believed to be responsible for legendary accounts of 'ghost ships' or otherworldly castles floating over the sea.

Also capturing our attention this past week were two rather curious cases centered around mysterious individuals seemingly up to no good. In New York City, authorities indicated that they were investigating a series of incidents in which groups of people were seen entering and exiting the sewer system through manholes. The proverbial urban spelunkers are thought to be looking for any valuables that might have slipped down the drains of residences throughout the city. Meanwhile, in Massachusetts, a motorist captured creepy footage of a masked individual dressed as a construction worker who emerged from a wooded area beside the road and stood in front of their car, seemingly trying to stop the vehicle, which smartly swerved to avoid the wandering weirdo.

A pair of particularly weird stories involving people getting into trouble because of food popped up in the news this past week, beginning with a content creator who was banned from Six Flags after he tried to eat 10 chicken nuggets while riding a roller coaster. Social media star Allen Ferrell attempted the odd stunt after being challenged by a fan and, of course, posted video of the shenanigans online. The footage caught the attention of Six Flags' parent company, which promptly banned the young man from all of their amusement parks for the flagrant violation of their safety policy. Meanwhile, a South Carolina cop lost his job after he allegedly pulled his service gun on a colleague who made the egregious mistake of microwaving fish at their police station.
