After declaring a resident of a Shanghai nursing home dead over the weekend, workers put him in a body bag and drove him to the morgue.
The only problem: the man was still alive.
Startled morgue workers made the discovery as they were unloading the body bag from the vehicle, video reveals. The video shows them physically recoil as the man's head pops out of the body bag. "The nursing home is such a mess," the person recording the clip can be heard saying. "They sent a living person on a hearse and said they were dead.
The undertaker staff said they were still moving. It is irresponsible, really irresponsible." Chinese officials say they've fired three workers from the district’s civil affairs bureau and social development office, while the head of the nursing home has also been dismissed. Authorities have also revoked the license of the doctor who declared the man dead, according to Chinese media outlets. Could this sort of thing happen in the United States?
