The members of one Missouri family on Tuesday received the surprise of their lives when they returned home to find a pile of rubble and burned wood where their house once stood.
Their house had exploded, authorities say. The explosion occurred just before noon in O'Fallon, where a work crew accidentally struck an underground gas line, according to the O'Fallon Fire Protection District. Police and fire officials were in the process of evacuating the area when the explosion occurred, says Police Sergeant Tony Michalka.
"Luckily, no one was in the home when it was exploded," Michalka says. "We’re not aware of any injuries. That’s incredible. We’re very lucky that it just involves property and no loss of life." Have you ever had a close call with natural gas?
