Tipping Sparks Debate Among Consumers Ahead Of The Holidays

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The idea of tipping has received some pushback as consumers gear up for one of the busiest seasons of the year.

In an economy driven by online shopping, the question at the top of some online shoppers minds this holiday season is, "Should you tip delivery drivers?"

For drivers like Marita, who makes some of her deliveries in Boston, tips are vital for her and her family, especially during the holiday season.

"It helps me a lot for Christmas that, I have Christmas gift for my family, my kids," she said.

But as many families struggle to make ends meet between tariffs, snap cuts and massive layoffs across the country, some residents say they are already paying enough and don't think they should be responsible for tipping the delivery drivers.

"I feel like we're already paying a lot," Mark from Boston said. "And the prices have basically been increasing."

Some residents have stated that they believe the additional income should come from the platforms, not the customers.
