BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — One person has died and another is critically injured after a plane crash Thursday morning in Beverly.

Beverly Police Chief John LeLacheur said the plane crashed around 8:45 a.m. on Sam Fonzo Drive near Beverly Municipal Airport. The Federal Aviation Administration said two people were onboard the Mooney M20 aircraft.

LeLacheur said one person was found dead inside the plane, and the other was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

He said it’s not yet known why the single-engine plane went down, and no one on the ground was hurt.

The FAA said it's investigating the crash alongside the National Transportation Safety Board.
