BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A recent article from USA Today showcased a survey that reveals three of the six New England states are home to some of the best museums in the nation.
Three museums in Massachusetts made the list, including the Plimoth Patuxet Museum in Plymouth, which was named the best open-air museum in the country. Known by many as Plimoth Plantation, the museum replicates the first colonial settlement in New England.
Old Sturbridge Village in Sturbridge placed 3rd for best open-air museum, documenting New England living between 1790 and 1840. It is one of the largest and oldest living history museums in the U.S.
Ranked second for the best small-town museums was the Concord Museum in Concord, Mass. The museum offers extensive history on the Revolutionary War, along with a large collection of objects from the era.
The best maritime museum belongs to Bath, Maine. The article said the Maine Maritime Museum was ranked number one for best showcasing its lineage with fishing and the sea. Mystic Seaport Museum in Connecticut ranked 3rd for best maritime museum.
