BRAINTREE, MASS. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The MBTA Red Line is now traveling at 50 mph on the Braintree branch for the first time in 20 year.
This is just the latest update since the agency eliminated all slow zones on the rails at the end of 2024.
Riders of the Red Line, like Raegan, said they are optimistic of the changes. “I think it’s great,” she said.
Christian said he is impressed with the recent milestone. “I’ve been following the T and how they got rid of all the slow zones, so I think it’s really cool that we’re finally seeing what that actually look like.”
Meanwhile, MBTA General Manger and CEO Phillip Eng told WBZ NewsRadio in a statement that there’s a lot more to come. “This is just the beginning,” he said. “We are working every day to rebuild, to restore the public’s confidence in the MBTA.”
