BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Tom Homan, President Donald Trump’s border czar, targeted Boston’s Police Commissioner Michael Cox and said he will “bringing hell” to Boston with him.
In his speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference near D.C. Saturday, Homan alleged Cox is unfit for the role, “You're not a police commissioner… Because you became a politician. You forgot what it's like to be a cop." He further accused the state’s police force of interfering with federal immigration agents and neglecting federal law.
Mayor Michelle Wu told WBZ NewsRadio Sunday that Homan’s statements were “insulting” and baseless.
“We have the best police commissioner in the country,” she continued. “Boston’s crime levels are at the lowest ever recorded in our history.”
She also noted that the city’s homicide rates are at its lowest since 1957 when reliable records started being kept.
She commanded Cox’s decades of leadership and on-the-job experiences, adding that the results of the police department “speak for themselves.”
“You get great results when every single member of the community feels safe taking their kids to school [and] calling 911 when they need help,” Mayor Wu said.
Meanwhile, Mayor Wu assured that Boston continue to serve as a sanctuary city. “We’re going to keep what we do in Boston which is keeping everyone in our community safe,” she said. “We’re very proud to be the safest major city in the country.”
Along with mayors of New York, Chicago, and Denver, Mayor Wu will be testifying in front of Congress on Capitol Hill next month.
