SWAMPSCOTT, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Military Friends Foundation distributed thousands of Thanksgiving Hero Meals to veterans and military families on Tuesday.
Executive Director Sarah Sweeney told WBZ NewsRadio that this program is a way to simply say “thank you” to service members and their community.
Sweeney added that more than 3,500 Thanksgiving meals were given out and registered families picked up their meals in Springfield, Swampscott, and at the Hanscom Air Force Base.
The meals also came with a pie and a $100 gift card for groceries “to give families an option to pick what fits best on their table,” she said.
The Military Friends Foundation is a non-profit run by military spouses and current and former military members. The organization aims to provide support for the local military community through empowerment events, including this one.
“And what better population that has sacrificed so much to give thanks to,” Sweeney said.
