BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Culture, cosplay, and cherry blossoms – all the ingredients needed for the perfect Japan Festival in Boston.

Thousands of people gathered in the Boston Commons to celebrate Japanese traditions at the annual festival.

Organized by volunteers, the festival featured a live DJ, interactive workshops, dancing, 30 food stalls, and 60 vendor booths.

Japan Festival board member Etsuko Yashiro is constantly amazed at the level of attendance and enthusiasm from the attendees.

"We are actually surprised so many people are interested in and love Japanese culture, especially the Japanese food."

The celebration, which started in 2012, honored the 100th anniversary of the gift of cherry blossom trees bestowed on Washington D.C. from Tokyo.
