Jamaica Plain's First Dog Park Opens At Flaherty Playground

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Flaherty Playground on Cornwall Street in Jamaica Plain now includes the neighborhood's first official dog park.

"I've lived here like three years [and] all the owners are always like, 'How is there not a dog park in J.P?,'" Meredith, a dog owner, said.

The new park is part of a broader renovation project at Flaherty Playground. The renovations include a new fountain and new playground equipment for children.

"The kids are watching the dogs play and the dogs are watching the kids play and it is fabulous," Meredith said.

Dog owners at the playground said the dog park addition was a long time coming.

"I've lived in Boston for 22 years and this is the most community I've ever felt," one person said. "It's packed with families and dogs and neighbors are talking to each other."
