BOSTON (WBZ News Radio) — About 1.1 million Igloo coolers have been recalled after reports of fingertip injuries.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission ordered the recall of the “Igloo 90 Qt. Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers” after the company received 12 injury reports in the U.S. that the cooler's handles caused finger lacerations, fractures, and amputation.

The recall notice was sent on Thursday.

In a statement from Igloo, the company said: “Through rigorous testing and proactive steps, we are constantly improving our products to meet the highest safety standards.”

The company said consumers who own the coolers should stop using them immediately and contact Igloo for a free handle replacement.

The coolers were sold at major retailers including Costco, Target, Dick’s, and Amazon.

Since the cooler's release in 2019 to the current recall, just over one million coolers have been purchased in the U.S., and another 70,000 coolers were sold in Canada and Mexico.

There have been no reports of injuries in other countries.
