DANVERS, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Five Massachusetts towns declared a state of emergency in response to growing wildfire concerns.
The declaration makes it so communities can better coordinate the distribution of equipment, supplies and services to help combat wildfires.
“I was coming up Route 1 about four days ago [and] the smoke from the wildfires was horrible, I couldn’t really breathe that well, it’s bad, it’s not good,” Patrick said.
The communities of Boxford, Middleton, North Reading, and North Andover have also declared a state of emergency.
“[There’s] so much brush over the years out there from [brush] falling on top of itself that they can’t put it out,” Dean said.
The Department of Conservation and Recreation said that over 1,200 fires have been reported so far this year. In November alone, 425 fires erupted with over 2,500 acres burned.
