BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — It was a two-day headache for all parties involved on parts of Route 1A southbound.
Boston Police and Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) warned that cleanup from a bus crash Monday would carry over and leave portions of McClellan Highway cut off for the Tuesday morning commute.
The crash in East Boston damaged several utility poles and transformers— it’s those roadside structures that crews were dispatched for.
Dennis is a rideshare driver and told WBZ NewsRadio that he was stuck in the middle of the mess.
“The worse luck,” he said, “It was an hour and a half to get through, and [I] was just pulling my hair out.”
With the southbound road still closed, he added that the highway will be a mess.
“I’m going to steer clear, for sure.”
In the meantime, MassDOT said detour signs were put in place to guide drivers to alternative routes. The message to passengers heading out from Logan Airport was to leave extra time, accounting for jammed pack traffic.
“I’m going to take Chelsea… but it’s going to take you a little longer,” another driver said.
As of right now, one lane on the McClellan Highway south is now fully reopened.
