Cambridge, MA (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Multicultural Arts Center in Cambridge held an all-day celebration of the arts on Saturday.
“A Taste of the Arts” was hosted at the Brookline/Cambridge Community Center for the Arts.
The celebration included 8 workshops that taught different dance genres such as locking, hip-hop, flamenco and samba while also educating people on skills such as Kung Fu and playing steel pan music.
Directly after the workshops, those who taught earlier in the day showed off their skills in a showcase, with the rest of the night consisting of a dance social open to everyone.
While these workshops and performances were happening, there was a ‘Vendor’s Village’ of local artists and a fundraiser collecting toys, clothes and books for those who need them.
Dan Marshall, co-founder of the BCCA/CCCA and this celebration, discussed how the main goals of this event were to bring people together and empower them through these displays of culture. He also hoped that this event would raise money for the center.
“We’re fundraising to continue our work and we want to feature 50 artists that are local and international that all live in this area,” Dan said.
