Bostonians Prep For New Year's Eve Celebrations

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Whether it be staying in or going for a night on the town, Boston residents are getting ready to kick off New Year’s Eve celebrations.

Most people already had plans for their Wednesday night, but some were less exciting than others.

“Most likely, I will be a prisoner at my mom's house,” said one passerby in Chinatown. “And then I will be free by 12:01.”

One Boston resident was ready to celebrate while warming up for the cold temperatures.

“So bring either hot hands, or if you’re a woman, those fast flats, they kind of like fold in half, because then they’re easy to switch in and out of,” said the Boston resident. “But if you go out and you want to wear heels, it's cold.”

First Night Boston will hold its annual New Year’s Eve celebration in areas around Boston. Festivities kick off at 10 A.M. with a sing-along at Boston Public Market, then some live performances at City Hall Plaza later into the night. The event concludes with fireworks over Boston Harbor to celebrate the New Year.

And with the clubs and bars likely to be packed, another suggestion running rampant among Bostonians is to make sure you have a safe ride home from whatever celebration you might be attending.

“And make sure you take care of yourself, you know? Make sure you've got a family to go home to,” said one Boston resident.

“Don’t drink and drive, an Uber will always save you more in the long run,” said another resident.

Public transportation will be an option as well, as the MBTA will waive all fares for the T, buses, ferries, shuttle services, and the commuter rail after 8 P.M.
