BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Boston Public Library is ringing in the New Year by helping readers explore the world through their annual Winter Reading Challenge.
The challenge, titled 'Read the World,' gives bookworms until the end of February to read a book from each continent of the world, except Antarctica. BPL Reader Services Supervisor Veronica Koven-Matasy said the challenge helps people expand their perspectives.
"We have recommendations from all different genres, all different formats," Koven-Matasy said. "If you're a graphic novel reader, please read a graphic novel. If you want to read a picture book, a picture book is also reading, and we're so excited to encourage you throughout the challenge."

Each branch provides a map that shows which continent each book is from. Readers will also receive a collector's pin.
"We really hope that by trying authors from different regions, we really open our eyes to new perspectives, like global perspectives, and maybe find something that we didn't know before," Koven-Matasy said.
