BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — One of the most popular new year resolutions had people out in full force at the gyms on Jan. 1.
"They show up for the first two weeks, and then us regulars that are here every single day, we continue, and they don't," said one avid lifter.
Getting to the gym to work out is a common resolution to have, but less common are people who stick to it for more than two weeks. For some of those who were able to stay disciplined in 2025, their new resolution is to make sure they don't ease up in 2026.
"I lost about 40 pounds in 2025. So now I need to do something to maintain that," one woman said.

A few regulars at the YMCA Oaks Square say that the key to sticking to your resolutions is not overworking yourself when exercising.
"Number one rule: don't get injured. Just be careful. Don't injure yourself, know your limits and try to have fun," another man said.
The center's youth and family director, Michael Markovich, says the best way to stick to a new workout routine is to accept that you might not be great at it right off the jump. Progress takes time.
"A lot of people will come in and try to get in phenomenal shape in the first week or two. If they don't see massive results, they just want to quit on it. I think you need to just set yourself small goals, whether that's just going for a walk while you're here. Add five minutes to your walk or jog, setting reachable goals for yourself that you can obtain in Brighton."
