BRAINTREE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The post-Christmas return rush is not what it used to be in years past.
On Thursday at South Shore Plaza, there were some people returning or exchanging gifts, but the crowds weren’t nearly as busy as one would expect the day after Christmas.
WBZ NewsRadio spoke to shopper Maria about whether she would return a gift if it wasn’t a good fit.
“Probably not. I [consider] myself a gift card [or] money giver, because it’s hard to buy for me never mind hard to buy for people,” she said.

Barbara believes that the lack of advertising by retailers of post-Christmas sales also has something to do with the low shopper turnout.
“There really aren’t any advertisements for the day after Christmas sales. I was already at a plaza and the usual stores that were open at 7 a.m., were not open,” she said.
Barbara was at Macy’s Thursday morning returning a pair of slippers.
“Even Macy’s [used to be] open the day after at 7 a.m., today it was 9 a.m.”
J.J. Donovan took a trip down to Target to scope things out. As someone who specializes in market research, this is a day where he will be paying close attention.
“So, I like the South Shore Plaza because you can always get a pulse of the economy as well too,” he said.
J.J. blames the rise in online retailers as an attributing factor to the lack of activity in brick-and-mortar stores.
However, he said that in person shopping still has its benefits.
“If you want to touch and see the product in real time that’s why you come out for in person shopping, or you shop in person if you’ve failed to plan in advance,” he added.
