BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Animal Rescue League of Boston needs funding to help care for newborn puppies left at the facility last week.
The puppies known as Nutcracker and Sugar Plum arrived at the ARL in need of intensive care. The German Shepherd and Bulldog mix newborns came from an unexpected litter. According to a statement from the organization, since their mother couldn't care for them, they require urgent, around-the-clock attention.

The first female-founded animal welfare clinic receives no government funding. With the estimated cost of care for the puppies expected to reach $3,000, the organization issued a link to request donations from the public. While the dogs are not available for adoption yet, families interested in giving Sugar Plum and Nutcracker a forever home are encouraged to monitor ARL's website for changes.
The ARL has helped more than 20,000 animals since 1899. The company bills itself as an organization that helps animals heal and thrive, keeps pets and people together, and protects animals from harm.
