Hello, Dolly...Tropical Storm Forms In Atlantic

The National Hurricane Center has officially upgraded Invest 96L to Tropical Storm Dolly, marking the fourth named storm of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season.

The system developed over the open waters of the central Atlantic and is currently packing maximum sustained winds of 40 miles per hour.

Current Status and Track

  • Location: Central Atlantic Ocean, moving northwest over open water.
  • Wind Speed: 40 mph sustained winds with higher gusts.
  • Land Threats: None. The storm is keeping entirely out to sea.

Meteorologists note that Dolly is a highly disorganized system that faces a brief and hostile lifespan. The storm is currently tracking directly into a zone characterized by high vertical wind shear and a dense layer of dry, stable atmospheric air.

Because of these unfavorable environmental conditions, the National Hurricane Center forecasts that Dolly will rapidly lose strength. The system is expected to degenerate into a remnant low-pressure trough by Friday morning, completely dissipating over the open ocean without ever impacting Florida or the United States coastline.
