FLORIDA - Walmart is expanding its drone delivery program into additional Florida markets as the retail giant continues investing in faster delivery options for online shoppers.
The company recently announced a major expansion of its partnership with drone operator Wing, bringing aerial delivery services to more communities across the United States.
Florida is among the states expected to benefit from the expansion, with the service planned for markets including Orlando and Tampa and additional growth anticipated in other areas of the state.
According to Walmart, the expanded network will significantly increase the number of customers who have access to drone deliveries.
The company estimates the service could eventually reach millions of households nationwide as new locations are added over the coming years.
The drone delivery program allows customers to order thousands of eligible products, including groceries, over the counter medications, household essentials and other everyday items.
Once an order is placed, products are loaded onto autonomous drones that transport purchases directly to customers within a designated service area.
Company officials said many deliveries can be completed in less than 30 minutes, depending on weather conditions, airspace restrictions and customer location.
The drones typically operate within several miles of participating Walmart stores and are designed to carry lightweight packages.
Walmart has been testing and expanding drone delivery technology for several years as retailers compete to reduce delivery times and improve convenience for online shoppers.
The company said the latest expansion represents one of the largest drone delivery initiatives currently operating in the United States.
The rollout remains subject to regulatory approvals and operational requirements, but Walmart officials said the goal is to continue expanding access to the service as demand grows.
Additional details regarding participating Florida stores and launch dates are expected to be announced as the program moves forward.
