FLORIDA - A change is coming for Publix customers who use the grocery chain’s mobile application to complete purchases at checkout.

Publix Super Markets announced that it will discontinue the Pay with the App feature from its mobile platform, ending the digital checkout option known as Publix Pay.

The feature currently allows customers to pay for their purchases in store by scanning a code from the Publix mobile app at the register instead of using a physical debit or credit card.

The company said the payment tool will officially be removed from the app on March 19, 2026.

Publix Pay has been part of the Publix mobile app for several years and was designed to provide customers with a contactless way to pay while shopping in store.

Shoppers who used the feature could link a payment method directly to their Publix account and complete transactions using their smartphone.

The system also allowed purchases to automatically connect with Club Publix accounts, which provide digital receipts, coupons, and promotional offers.

Although the mobile payment option will be discontinued, Publix confirmed that the rest of the mobile app will remain active.

Customers will still be able to use the app to browse weekly deals, clip digital coupons, manage shopping lists, and access their Club Publix membership benefits.

The grocery chain said customers will continue to have access to standard payment methods at checkout, including debit cards, credit cards, and Publix gift cards.

Gift cards stored within the Publix app will still be available for scanning at checkout even after the payment feature is removed.

Publix operates more than 1,300 stores across the southeastern United States.
