Orlando Attorney Discusses State's Plan To Prosecute Maduro

(Orlando, FL) -- Governor Ron DeSantis wants to pursue state charges against former Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro, but a local attorney says that would be extremely difficult. NeJame [[nee-jame]] Law partner Ryan Vescio used to be a state prosecutor, and he talked yesterday after DeSantis said he wanted to bring drug trafficking charges against Maduro. Vescio says the state may have a case, but he doubts Maduro will ever step foot in a Florida courtroom. He tells Channel 9 it's unlikely Maduro will ever be released from federal custody. 

Luna, DeSantis Back Congressional Stock Trading Ban

(Clearwater, FL)-- A Tampa Bay lawmaker is pushing for a ban on congressional stock trading. Republican Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna was in Clearwater yesterday to promote a bill she introduced four months ago. It would ban stock trading by members of Congress, their spouses and dependent children.Luna says it's wrong and it needs to stop. Governor Ron DeSantis appeared with Luna and publicly supported the bill. He says he plans to require state lawmakers to disclose their stock purchases.      

Cape Canaveral Officials Ask Brevard County To Keep Lone School Open

(Cape Canaveral, FL)-- A school in Brevard County may close soon but not if city officials get their way. Cape Canaveral Mayor Wes Morrison and members of the city council went before the school board yesterday to discuss the future of the city's only school. The school board will vote in two weeks on whether to close Cape View Elementary School due to low enrollment. Morrison says the school is an important part of the community, but school board member John Thomas tells News 6 closing the school is almost a no-brainer.   

32-Year-old Man Dies After Setting Himself on Fire While Trying to Torch School

(Tampa, FL) -- A 32-year-old man is dead after he set himself on fire while trying to do the same to a High School in Tampa. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd says the as-yet unidentified man climbed over a fence on Monday with a container of gasoline in hand. Judd says detectives are still trying to piece together the reason why the man, who was reported missing by his family earlier in the day, wanted to set the school on fire. Damage to the school was minimal and is not expected to impact operations.

Uhaul Data Shows More People Moving To FL

(Undated) -- Newly released data shows that more people are moving to Florida than most other states.That's according to new U-Haul data on the number of one-way movers in each state. Florida is number two in the nation, following Texas. North Carolina, Tennessee, and South Carolina round out the top five. The top states people are moving out of are California, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, and Massachusetts.
