Louisiana's sugar cane industry is celebrating record sugar production this season.
It's a welcome change from the severe drought conditions of 2023, when many growers suffered significant yield losses.
John Hebert, Ag Division Manager with the Louisiana Sugarcane Cooperative, says some growers produced only about half of their usual yields because of the drought. The weather in 2025 brought better results.
The mill in St. Martin Parish passed its goal of 470 million pounds of sugar by December 27th, the end of the season.
