(Des Moines, IA) -- Iowa’s hands-free driving law officially carries fines beginning January 1. Drivers caught violating the law will face a $100 penalty.
The law requires drivers to use hands-free or voice-activated technology while operating a vehicle. If a violation causes a crash resulting in serious injury, the fine increases to $500, and the driver could face a license suspension. If the crash is fatal, the fine jumps to $1,000.
Since Iowa began issuing warnings in July, traffic deaths have decreased by 25%.
