The last day of 2025 is here and tonight is New Year’s Eve, but that doesn’t mean everyone is ready to celebrate. For some folks, this is the biggest party of the year and they go all out for the countdown at midnight to ring in the New Year, but new research suggests a lot of people feel meh about the holiday.
According to a new survey of 2-thousand adults, more than half aren’t excited about potential parties tonight.
- Six in 10 go as far as calling New Year’s Eve the most overrated night of the year.
- While a lot of people love getting dressed up and attending festive events on December 31st, 72% say staying home is more fun than going out.
- Of course, there are always huge celebrations and parties that those who don’t mind crowds can buy tickets to for New Year’s Eve, but they don’t come cheap.
- The average cost of going out for NYE is about $156, and it can get far more expensive, so it’s not surprising that half of respondents are planning to stay home tonight.
- It’s not just older folks who shy away from celebrating, Gen Z and millennials are the generations most likely to opt to go to a house party instead of bars or clubs.
- More than a third (39%) of those polled say they prefer a “more relaxed atmosphere” and “better food and drinks.”
- The thing is, a lot of people have been let down by New Year’s Eves past, with nearly four in 10 admitting that every time they’ve gone out for the holiday it’s been “disappointing.”
- Their biggest complaints include overcrowded venues (47%), pricey drinks (38%) and long lines at bars (38%).
- All of that is enough to make 17% say they’d rather just have friends over to eat and drink instead of going out.
- But 24% confess they feel “pressured by social expectations” to hit the town and that jumps to 44% for Gen Z.
