No one can argue that crime has become absolutely ridiculous in the United States in recent years. Especially in the years following the COVID-19 lockdowns, a switch has flipped, and people have become more brazen, crazy, and reckless. Robbing stores in broad daylight, carjacking senior citizens, you name it. It has gotten to a point of stupidity most Americans cannot begin to fathom.
That idiotic behavior has been reinforced by soft on crime judges, who have been released violent criminals back into society. For what reason, no one is really sure. Maybe they just want to watch the world burn. But President Trump has vowed to get the problem under control. He has instituted a stance of zero-tolerance on crime in America, especially violent crime. That stance is starting to pay some dividends, despite Democrats kicking and screaming.
The United States is currently on track to see its largest one-year drop-off in murders ever, by over 20-percent. It is evident the crackdown is working. Criminals are being deterred and more importantly, Americans are fed up with how people are acting.
Criminology professor at Tarleton State University Dr. Alex Del Carmen says this drop is important, not just for the safety aspect, but in the grand scheme of getting America back to being normal again.
"Murder is one of the crimes we track the best, in terms of accuracy...so if we are seeing a decline in the number of people murdered, it is a very significant finding," he says.
A 20-percent drop from 2024 to 2025 would be largest drop ever. Compared to just a 13-percent decrease between 2023 and 2024. The crime crackdown is clearly going somewhere, and it has only just begun.
One of the biggest problems that led to the increase was the absolutely insane "Defund the Police" movement launched by liberals. That led to major cities being woefully understaffed with law enforcement and led to an increase in crime. That combined with the radical judges led to an untenable situation.
But with Trump in office, that has shifted back. People are supporting the blue, and the President is too, which is helping the decrease.
"Law enforcement is being encouraged to do their job...and in addition, the tools are in place to make it happen," says Dr. Del Carmen. "It is a really good thing the President is encouraging them to do their job and supporting them at all levels. That will go a long way in the future."
As for the future, Americans want this crackdown to continue. People are tired of having to ask clerks to get toothpaste, because it is locked up due to animals robbing CVS stores.
Awareness of the issue among Americans has hit a peak, and that is going to help drive further change.
"That level of conviction by the public, that crime will not be tolerated, is going to demand from politicians in the coming year that they focus on crime," Dr. Del Carmen says.
The hope is this crime crackdown not only deters criminals but helps us find the insane judges that release these animals into the streets. But the ship is heading in the right direction, it is a matter now of keeping the momentum.
