UNDATED, Mich. -- Gas prices in Michigan have increased by eight cents over the past week, with the average price now at $2.81 per gallon, according to AAA Michigan. Despite the recent rise, prices are still 19 cents lower than last month and 22 cents lower than the same time last year. A full 15-gallon tank currently costs about $42 across the state.
Jackson reports the highest gas prices in Michigan at $2.92 per gallon, while Traverse City boasts the lowest at $2.55 per gallon. The recent increase follows a period of declining prices, as noted by AAA's previous report of a 12-cent drop earlier in December.
As the year comes to a close, AAA spokesperson Adrienne Woodland highlighted that Michigan drivers are still benefiting from lower prices compared to last Christmas, when the average was $3.06 per gallon. The fluctuations in gas prices are influenced by changes in crude oil prices and gasoline demand, which have been affected by holiday travel and domestic supply levels.
