Kim Kardashian faced criticism from animal-welfare advocates after she gave each of her four children a Pomeranian puppy for Christmas... a gift she shared on her Instagram Stories.
According to Page Six, PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk pushed back, saying “puppies are not plushies” and arguing that Kim missed a chance to use her platform to highlight animal adoption from shelters instead of buying from breeders.
They note that Newkirk also encouraged Kim and her sister Khloé — who gifted a Labrador puppy to her kids — to consider volunteering at or supporting local shelters, and to promote adopt-a-thon or spay-and-neuter events as a way to help homeless animals.
The reality star hasn’t responded publicly to the criticism yet.
