As 2026 approaches, motorists in the Capital Region are seeing a decrease in gas prices. According to AAA, the average price for a gallon of regular fuel locally is now $3.05, marking a two-cent drop from last week and a nine-cent decline from a month ago. The state average remains at $3.05, while the national average is slightly lower at $2.82.
AAA reports that this holiday season is delivering cheaper gas prices, with the national average dropping more than four cents since last week. This marks the cheapest December at the pump since 2020. Despite increased gasoline demand over the holidays, supply remains strong, contributing to stable prices. Crude oil prices are also low, with the Energy Information Administration (EIA) reporting an increase in gasoline production.
The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline recently dipped below $3 for the first time in four years, remaining at $2.99 since early December. Factors such as sluggish gas demand and the cheaper-to-produce winter blend gasoline are contributing to this decline.
As the new year approaches, drivers can expect continued stability in gas prices, with no sharp spikes anticipated. For the latest updates on gas prices and trends, visit the AAA Fuel Site.
