President Donald Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at Mar-a-Lago in Florida today with Zelensky laying out his 20-point plan for peace and Mr. Trump was at least somewhat pleased by the meeting.
"We're in the final stages of talking," President Trump said following the closed door meeting, "and we're gonna see. Otherwise it's going to go on for a long time, a long time," referring to the war between Russia and Ukraine.
"We'll see what happens, but we have two willing parties, we have two willing countries, they want to see it end -- the people of Russia want it to end and the people of Ukraine want it to end."
One complication of the Zelenskyy plan would be that Russia will cease fire in a particular mutual zone.
Reports say Zelensky’s peace plan has been bolstered by the backing of European leaders but with his capital Kyiv still reeling from a massive Russian bombardment.
At this time, President Trump, says the plan will need to be approved, as there is no word at this time if Russian Leader Vladamir Putin will agree to any or some of the terms, at the top of the list- a cease fire- for a mutual economic ground zone.
Sunday’s meeting is the first time the 2 world leaders have met since October when the President refused to grant Zelensky’s request for long range missiles.
The talks are expected to last an hour, as the 2 presidents will also be joined by leaders of key European allies.
