Fort Lauderdale, FL - A late night shooting in Fort Lauderdale sent five people to the hospital, prompting a large police response and an ongoing investigation into what led up to the violence.

According to Fort Lauderdale Police, officers were dispatched to reports of gunfire in the downtown area near Southwest Second Street shortly after 2 a.m.

When officers arrived, they found multiple adult victims suffering from gunshot wounds in a popular area known for bars and nightlife activity.

Emergency crews from Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue provided treatment at the scene before transporting five victims to nearby hospitals for further care.

Police have not released the identities of the victims, and officials have not provided updates on their conditions.

Investigators said the shooting appeared to be an isolated incident and emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Authorities have not confirmed any arrests related to the shooting.

A review of available arrest reports shows no suspect has been formally taken into custody at this time.

Police have not released details on a possible motive, and it remains unclear whether the victims knew each other or the shooter.

Any involvement by a suspect is considered alleged until charges are formally filed.

Detectives remained on scene for several hours collecting evidence, interviewing witnesses, and reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses.

The area was temporarily secured while investigators worked to reconstruct the sequence of events that led to the shooting.

Fort Lauderdale Police continue to ask anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information to contact authorities as the investigation remains active.

Additional details are expected to be released as police confirm facts and determine whether criminal charges will be pursued.
