Community Connect: Free Kwanzaa Celebrations in Chicago

Community Connect is hooking you up and helping you out with a few free celebrations for Kwanzaa...

Today, the Black Star Project hosts its Bronzeville Kwanzaa Celebration & Vendor Fair from 10am to 3pm at Hatch 41 (4131 S. State Street, Chicago). This free family-friendly event commemorates the seven principles of Kwanzaa, with live performances, Black-owned vendors and giveaways. (Also see flyer below)

And Malcolm X College hosts its annual Kwanzaa Celebration all week long through New Year's Day. They kicked it all off yesterday and will continue each day from 10am to 6pm on the first floor of the college building (at 1900 W. Jackson Boulevard, Chicago). Every day at noon, the program starts with a Drum Call, Libation, recounting of Kwanzaa history, lighting of the candles, and sharing the principal of the day, with a live performance at 1pm. Plus they have local vendors on site selling African-inspired art, drums, candles, clothing and more. Each day features exciting new programs designed to educate, empower, and uplift. Daily activities include a new Reading Circle for younger children, interactive workshops, family-friendly activities, and more plus, it's free for everyone to attend--all ages are welcome.

Creating community is all about getting the help we need and giving all the help we can!
