Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce addressed the possibility of retirement during a prerecorded interview with fellow Chiefs legend Tony Gonzalez.
The segment aired before Amazon Prime Video's broadcast of the Chiefs' 20-13 loss against the Denver Broncos Thursday (December 25) night, which would serve as Kelce's final game at Arrowhead Stadium should he opt for retirement this offseason.
“I think I’m still searching for those answers,” Kelce told Gonzalez. “Obviously, the way this one ended with a sour taste in my mouth. I feel motivated but I’ve got to make the right decision for me. I gotta hope that if I do wanna come back that the Chiefs are willing to bring me back. It’s a two-way street on that.”
Kelce added that his brother, retired former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, would be a key source in discussions about his potential retirement.
“I know when it’s over, it’s over,” he continued. “I feel like I still have a lot of love for this game, I feel like if I came back it’d just be to answer that flame in my heart that I still love this thing.”
Kelce's fiancée, pop superstar Taylor Swift, was in attendance for Thursday's game, which saw the 36-year-old record a Chiefs-best five receptions for 36 yards as Kansas City quarterback Chris Oladokun made his first career NFL start in the absence of Patrick Mahomes and backup Gardner Mindshew, with both suffering season-ending injuries in recent weeks.
“You only get a few of those where you just get to stand there and appreciate 60-70,000 Chiefs fans screaming for you,” Kelce told reporters after Thursday's game via the New York Post. “I always embrace that moment, man. It’s fun. Hopefully I got everybody fired up for it.”
