Travelers in Albany should brace for slippery conditions today (Tuesday, December 23) as a clipper system brings snow and ice to the region. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory, effective from this morning through Wednesday (December 24) morning. According to the Country Herald, areas including the western Mohawk Valley, southern Adirondacks, southeast Catskills, northern Taconic Mountains, southern Green Mountains, and the Berkshires could see snow accumulations ranging from three to six inches, with higher elevations potentially receiving up to eight inches.
In the Capital Region, Binghamton area, and mid-Hudson Valley, snowfall is expected to be between one and three inches. The National Weather Service warns of a light glaze of ice due to patchy freezing drizzle, particularly in higher terrains, which could worsen travel conditions.
Motorists are advised to exercise caution, as snow-covered roads and reduced visibility are likely, especially during the evening commute. The New York State Thruway Authority reports snow and ice conditions across the Syracuse region, with wet spots on the pavement. Travelers are encouraged to tune to NewsRadio 103.1 / 810 WGY for the latest road and weather conditions.
