A Massachusetts fourth grader is being recognized for his kindness after choosing to spend a donated gift card on his dog instead of toys for himself during a holiday charity event. Victor Amaro received a $100 gift card through a program that pairs children with first responders for Christmas shopping, but instead of spending on himself, he bought food for his dog Belle and gifts for his family.
The 10-year-old’s decision stood out to Lowell Police Officer Emmanuel Antonetty, who was shopping with him during the event. Moved by Victor’s thoughtfulness and generosity, Antonetty arranged a second shopping trip and secured another $100 donation.
On that return visit, Victor picked out a football, a Monopoly game for family time, and a few other items. He describes the experience as the “best day ever” and says he hopes others remember to be kind during the holiday season, believing that kindness will come back to them.
