A trustee from the Brea Olinda Unified School District, Christopher Becerra, was arrested on Thursday after police received reports of "inappropriate sexual messages" sent to a minor.
Becerra, 42, faces charges including possession of child pornography, annoying or molesting a child, and falsifying evidence. He is also accused of bribing, influencing, intimidating, or threatening witnesses, according to Brea police.
Becerra was elected to the school board in 2022, with his term set to run until 2026. Before his election, he worked for the district from 2010 to 2018 and was employed at the Orange County Department of Education. He later founded an educational consulting agency and worked as an administrator in higher education and a professor of child development.
Becerra represents Trustee Area 4 in the district.
Police say due to Becerra's access to children, they believe there may be additional victims. Parents are urged to talk to their children and if they believe their child may have been a victim to contact the Brea Police Department Detective Bureau at 714-671-4469.
