ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan has launched an investigation into its former head football coach, Sherrone Moore, following his dismissal due to an inappropriate relationship with a female staff member. Interim university president Domenico Grasso announced the hiring of an outside law firm, Jenner & Block, to conduct a thorough review of the athletic department's culture, conduct, and procedures.
Moore was fired on December 10 after the university discovered his relationship with the staff member. He now faces criminal charges, including third-degree home invasion, after allegedly breaking into the staff member's apartment and threatening to harm himself. According to ESPN, Grasso emphasized the university's commitment to uncovering any additional misconduct and ensuring such behavior does not recur.
The investigation will delve into the athletic department's overall culture and conduct. Grasso stated that the university will take swift action if the investigation reveals further wrongdoing. He urged anyone with relevant information to contact Jenner & Block.
Moore's arrest followed his alleged confrontation with the staff member after their relationship ended. He reportedly threatened to kill himself in front of her, leading to his arrest and subsequent release on a $25,000 bond. He is required to wear a GPS monitor and undergo mental health treatment.
The university's investigation aims to restore integrity within its athletic department and prevent future incidents. Grasso assured that any further actions will be based on credible evidence and findings from the investigation.
