The New Orleans City Council will vote today on a plan to reduce power outages in the city with a new grid of batteries.]
The council will decide whether to approve using $30 million in Entergy New Orleans ratepayer funds to award grants to New Orleans businesses and homeowners who want to buy batteries.
The battery owners would be required to attach their batteries to the Entergy grid for seven years.
The grid would draw energy from the batteries during peak demand. Battery owners would be paid for their power.
