A jury in Schenectady has convicted Tarachand Chunilall, a 53-year-old man from Connecticut, of attempting to sexually assault a minor. The incident occurred in November 2024 during a "religious home sale celebration" at the victim's family home. Chunilall was found guilty of third-degree attempted rape and endangering the welfare of a child.
According to the Schenectady County District Attorney’s Office, Chunilall went to the victim's room in the early morning hours of November 30, 2024. He attempted to assault the minor, but she managed to fight him off and immediately informed her father, who then contacted the police.
During the trial, Chunilall claimed he entered the girl's room at her father's request to discuss school issues. However, the jury rejected his testimony and found him guilty on both charges. As reported by the Daily Voice, Chunilall now faces up to one year in jail or six years of probation. He will also be required to register as a sex offender upon his release. Sentencing is scheduled for February 4.
