Trey Songz had another run-in with police over the weekend, resulting in charges for not just one but two criminal cases.
According to a report TMZ published on Monday, December 15, the R&B singer was arrested after he allegedly damaged over $1,500 worth of property inside the Mira NYC & Hookah Lounge in Midtown Manhattan. Police were called to the venue in the early hours of Sunday after the singer allegedly ruined hookah set-ups, DJ equipment, and sofas. In response, Songz's attorney, Mitchell Schuster, claimed his client was "confronted by individuals who instigated a confrontation and attempted to surround him."
"Security intervened to protect him and contain the situation, and an altercation occurred in the ensuing confusion," Schuster continued. "Public figures are often treated as targets for instigation in pursuit of headlines or financial gain. We are confident the facts will speak for themselves."
Upon his arrest, police reviewed Trey Songz's record and saw that he was also wanted in an unrelated crime at another nightclub in New York City. The incident occurred on December 4 at Dramma Night Club in Times Square. Songz reportedly got upset that the venue's employees asked him to leave at closing time. One of the workers allegedly grabbed the singer's arm, which fueled his anger and made him punch the employee in the face.
Trey Songz was charged in both cases with two counts of assault, harassment, and criminal mischief. He pleaded not guilty to the charges at his arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court on Monday. The singer was released from jail without bail. He's due back in court on February 18.
