The Onondaga County Volunteer Firefighters Association in Solvay is set to receive $120,000 in state funding for a new fire safety trailer. New York State Senator Christopher Ryan announced the funding on Monday (December 15), highlighting its importance in enhancing fire safety education across the county.

The new trailer will replace the existing one, which has been in use since 2003. It will serve as a vital tool for hands-on training, educational purposes, and live demonstrations. According to CNY Central, the trailer will help provide safety tools to families and expand the association's reach.

Warren Darby, President of the Onondaga County Volunteer Firefighters Association, emphasized the trailer's role in modernizing their resources. He stated, "With this new trailer, and in partnership with local fire departments, we’ll be able to provide hands-on education, live demonstrations, and digital safety resources that help keep our communities safer before an emergency ever occurs."

Senator Ryan noted that firefighters dedicate numerous hours to teaching fire safety, and educational trailers are crucial in preventing fires. The previous trailer educated thousands on the dangers of house and dorm fires.

The new trailer can be requested for events by contacting Mike Block or Judy Strazzere, as noted on the Onondaga County Volunteer Firemen's Association website.
