The Grinch gets all the attention for stealing Christmas that one year, but bold thieves are the ones terrorizing neighborhoods frequently during the holidays year after year. These days we buy more presents online instead of shopping in stores, giving porch pirates more opportunities to snatch our gifts before we get to bring them inside. It’s estimated that 37-million packages will be stolen in the U.S. this year alone, totaling $8.2-billion in stolen merchandise, according to Security.org.
Depending on where you live, you may be more likely to get hit by these prowlers and a new study reveals where they’re most likely to strike.

- It analyzes FBI data for the last five years to find out which states have had it worst.

- The safest state for porch piracy is Vermont, which has had a 29.8% decrease in burglaries over the past five years. It’s followed by Delaware, New Hampshire, Wyoming, Maine and Montana, which all had double-digit decreases in burglaries over the past 5 years.

Scott's Thoughts:
- Stealing packages is bad enough the rest of the year, but at Christmas? Have some decency!
- The only way to stop or slow it is to have harsher penalties. Lock them up through the holidays!
- Talk about a grinch!
