Republicans Should Campaign On Economic Honesty In 2026

As we head into the 2026 midterm cycle, Democrats are expected to focus their campaigns on the economy. The Trump team—namely Vice President J.D. Vance—appears to be getting ahead of the Democrats when it comes to economic messaging.

Vice President Vance has recently been acknowledging some of the difficulties Americans are facing, while largely attributing them to the lasting effects of Bidenomics. This move is being praised by other Republicans.

Congressional candidate Kyle Sinclair, who’s running to represent Texas’ 21st Congressional District, says they should keep acknowledging ongoing issues while also pointing to early signs of economic progress. “Prices of many things are down,” he said. “The Federal Reserve just went out last week and dropped the interest rates. We’re seeing gas prices extremely low.”

Sinclair also pointed out the simple fact that repairing all the damage caused by four years of Bidenomics is going to take time. “I think getting in front of it—and addressing some of these issues, and highlighting all of the good, but also here’s what we’re doing with X, Y, and Z—is a good talking point,” he explained.

He thinks the American people will respond more positively to honest discussions about the economic future than they will to a strategy similar to President Biden and Vice President Harris’ 2024 plan of trying to gaslight voters on the issues they care about.
