Detective Michael Greaney of the NYPD noticed a car speeding on the highway shoulder Friday morning. The driver explained his 8‑month‑old baby was choking. Greaney quickly intervened, removing the baby from her car seat and performing back blows.
The baby coughed, cried, and began breathing again. A nurse who stopped confirmed the child was stable.
Greaney returned the baby to her father and advised him to learn first aid. He expressed gratitude that the baby is safe, noting such rescues happen more often in policing than people realize.
