In McKinney, Texas, the holidays come with lights, shopping — and now, a little grandma wisdom. Right in the middle of downtown, the city has set up something called the Grandma Stand, where anyone can stop by for free advice, comfort, or just a kind conversation.

The stand is staffed by rotating “McKinney Grandmas,” including Grandma Nancy, who has four grandchildren of her own and a big heart for strangers. She greets passersby with a simple idea — sometimes it’s easier to open up to someone you don’t know, especially when that someone feels like a grandma.

The concept actually started in New York City back in 2012, created by a man inspired by his own grandmother. Since then, Grandma Stands have popped up in cities across the country — all built around the idea of providing a human connection.

Visitors stop by to talk about everything from heartbreak and loss to pets, sports, and everyday stress. No judgment. No rush. Just warmth.
