3 At Least 15 Killed In Targeted Attack On Hanukkah Celebration On Australia's Bondi Beach

At least 15 people were killed and 40 others injured in a shooting at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, yesterday. More than 1,000 people were at the beach when two gunmen, a 50-year-old father and his 24-year-old son, opened fire; officials say the attack was an act of terrorism. The attack targeted a Jewish community gathering celebrating the first night of Hanukkah. Police shot and killed the older gunman, while his son was hospitalized in serious condition; the younger shooter was identified as Naveed Akram, a Pakistani national living in Sydney. Video from the scene showed a bystander tackling one of the gunmen and taking his weapon away and pointing it right back at him; Australian officials later identified that man as Ahmed al Ahmed, calling him a "genuine hero."
