It's been 35 years since "Home Alone" came out, and became one of the highest-grossing live-action comedies of all time.
Here are 10 behind-the-scenes facts you might not know:
1. John Hughes came up with the idea because of his own travel anxiety during a family trip to Europe. John's son James remembers his father thinking, "What if one of the kids had been accidentally left behind?"
2. Hughes wrote the first draft of the script in nine days.
3. Buzz's girlfriend is actually the art director's son. Christopher Columbus thought it would be too mean to make fun of a teenage girl.
4. Chris Farley auditioned for the role of Santa Claus.
5. Joe Pesci actually bit Macaulay Culkin's finger during one of the rehearsals. Macaulay says he still has a white scar on his right index finger.
6. The owners of the McCallister house still lived in it during filming.
7. Macaulay actually cuts down a REAL tree in the backyard.
8. The iconic aftershave scene was an accident. Macaulay was only supposed to quickly touch his face, but instead he kept his hands there.
9. Macaulay played an adult version of Kevin in a 2015 episode of ":DRYVRS" on YouTube. (WARNING: The video contains profanity.)
10. Macaulay's brother Kieran (you know, from "Succession") plays his bed-wetting cousin Fuller.
