Parkland, FL - A Brown University student who previously lived through the 2018 Parkland school shooting says the recent violence on her college campus has brought back years of trauma.

On December 13, a gunman allegedly opened fire inside the Barus and Holley engineering building during a final exam review session, killing two students and injuring several others. The incident prompted a campus wide shelter in place order as police searched for the suspect.

Twenty year old student Zoe Weissman was in her dormitory when gunshots were reported.

Weissman said the sounds immediately reminded her of the day she stood on a shared athletic field near her middle school in Parkland and heard gunfire from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

She said she was later diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder following that event.

Weissman explained that the Brown University shooting rekindled the same fear she experienced as a child.

She remained locked inside her room through the night while communicating with friends until officials lifted the shelter order.

Weissman said she relied on coping skills learned through years of therapy and tried to help classmates manage their own stress.

Brown University canceled remaining final exams after the incident.

Police later detained a person of interest at a hotel in Coventry Rhode Island.

Authorities said the individual was being questioned in connection with the shooting but have not yet announced formal charges.

Investigators stated that no additional suspects were being sought as they continue to review evidence related to the attack.
